Here’s another post from Jax’s series of Minecraft tips. Be sure to read till the end so you can see how these gamer tips also apply to real life. Just a reminder – these tips come from Jax’s vids on his YouTube channel (Jackson’s Toy Box) as well as the book he and I wrote called Diary of a Minecraft Dad.
This tip is especially useful if you are just starting a new game. I’m sure you already know how to make a torch with coal, right? But do you know how to make one WITHOUT any coal? The secret is to make CHARCOAL!
Here’s all you need to do: collect some stone and make a furnace. This will allow you to smelt your wood into charcoal (using other wood as your fuel source). Here’s what it looks like in your furnace.
Once you have charcoal then you can then you can use that charcoal for your torches in place of your coal. This could save you a lot of time on Day 1 if you don’t see coal right away. That time saved could allow you to build a better shelter, find food, or just gather more resources – all of which could save your life.
So how does this Minecraft tip relate to real life wisdom?
This is another tip that talks about the power of “Know thy Craft.” Regardless of what you choose to do in life, do it with passion and because you WANT to do it. If you do, you will find happiness. For more on this wisdom, check out this article from The Helpful Dad: Choose Happiness Over Money
