Solomon Commands You to Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

We’ve been talking about the importance of enjoying life in some recent posts and specifically about how critical it is for us to make a concerted effort to BE PRESENT IN THIS MOMENT in order to get the most out of our lives.

King Solomon echoed this wisdom quite a bit in the Book of Ecclesiastes.

Consider the following:

Eccl 5:18-19 “I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his time under the sun during the few days of life God has given him…When God gives a man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to be happy in his work – this is a gift of God. Such a man seldom reflects on the days of his life because God keeps him occupied eatdrinkwith gladness of heart.”

Eccl 8:15 “I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.”

Eccl 11:7 “Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all.”

As usual, there’s more to Solomon’s wisdom on this topic than just the few quotes I pulled out for your review today. I encourage you to read Ecclesiastes in full if you have not already. It’s a short book and an easy read and the wisdom within those pages can change your life.

So what’s the bottom line for today?

Eat, Drink, and be Merry – and do all of those things TODAY!
